Britain’s largest insurer the Prudential, appointed Tidjane Thiam, who is currently the Chief Finance Officer of Prudential as its new Chief Executive Officer replacing Mr. Mark Tucker who has been the CEO of Prudential for the last 4 years now, the period during which Prudential expanded into faster - growing Asian markets.
Prudential plc. has been in existence since 1848. It has been operating in UK, United States and Asia and has its subsidiaries and affiliates throughout the world. It is one of the world’s leading financial service groups providing insurance and financial services. It has been maintaining a robust growth and capital position with operating profit rising at 17%, despite the current period of global recession. According to Mark Tucker it has been one of the strongest insurers in the world.
Tidjane Thiam has worked with Prudential for 12months as a CFO prior to which he worked with Aviva, where he acted as Group Strategy and Development Director, Managing Director and also as the CEO. He has also played several roles in the government of the Ivory Coast, his birthplace.

The market seems to have reacted positively to the decision of Prudential with its shares increasing as much as 28 percent. The shares had increased by 21 percent to 304.75 on 19 March, 2009 afternoon
